Free Business Advice at Selby Popup

Meet Rob: One of the Experts Who Will be Handing out Free Business Advice in Selby.

ON April 27th the How’s Business Popup Business Café comes to Selby Town Hall offering free, expert and impartial advice on a variety of topics for business owners and startups.

‘’There’s also free coffee, free cake and ‘non-salesy’, genuine help’’ Says Rob Kendal, partner at CreatedRed Media and one of the experts on hand who will be offering free website assessments at the event.

Rob (right) formed his successful marketing company in 2015 with his business partner Andy (left) to combine his development background with Andy’s design-led one. Aiding them is their self titled ‘head of motivation’ Bosley the dog (below).

‘’We provide a holistic marketing package to get your product out there and help complete the puzzle. We specialise in helping you to reach your target market, convert visitors, and generate more leads for your business.’’

Says Rob, whose local business specialises in web design, inbound marketing, strategy and training.

If that sounds like one of the things you could do with some help with, pop along to the Selby Popup Business Café between 9am and 1pm.

What does Rob Think about the Event?

Having taken the plunge to start his own business 5 years ago, Rob and the other experts attending the event are local business owners who have done it before.

‘’It makes the event a great way to get a diverse overview of your business. It’s not sales orientated like some expo’s and less intimidating than more formal networking groups. It’s especially useful if you’re thinking about, or are unsure as to whether to start a business or not.’’

Rob and the other experts are familiar with the trials and tribulations of starting and growing a local business:

‘’ When I started Created Red it was a dichotomy between the idea and the freedom you think you’ll have. You actually end up working harder and longer if it’s for yourself!’’

’ I had to go from the typical developer that rarely sees sunlight to getting out there in front of people. Without a network to start with that’s not easy.’’

”It would have been great to have attended a Popup Business event when I started out as it provides a really informal and friendly way to get free advice from people who’ve been there before.”

What do Previous Attendees think?

Catherine Calvert from Hazel Farm Holiday Lets loves to come and talk at popups ‘’especially since I work on my own, I always leave a popup feeling inspired. I can’t understand why they aren’t bursting at the seams!’’

Melanie Owen-Roberts who runs a local software development business said that her last popup was ‘’really good, I’ve loved having the 1-1 time to ask specific questions.’’

While Sally Fairlie who runs The Old Post Office Holiday Let noted that she ‘wasn’t sold anything, it’s purely about answering my questions.’’

And that’s exactly what you can expect to find help with at a Popup Business Café – a friendly, relaxed environment where you can have genuine, useful conversations about business, pressure free.

‘’ There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain’’ says Rob. ‘’Free coffee, free business networking and free advice for only a couple of hours of your time.’’

The event is organised by How’s Business, the growth hub for York, North Yorkshire and East Riding. It is free to attend and you can drop in anytime between 9am and 1pm.

Local experts will be available to discuss topics such as websites, marketing, finance, tax and accountancy.
