LEP Help for Businesses–
Here at the Local Enterprise Partnership we support businesses by:
- Making direct grant funding available.
- Coordinating and promoting the help available through our online Growth Hub How’s Business.
- Making funds and other resources available to other organisations that help businesses
Overall, providing grants for businesses is a relatively small proportion of our work. Around £2m of LEP funds are managed on our behalf and are available as business grants through the Lets Grow programme.
The main proportion of our work is helping businesses through our government funded How’s Business Growth Hub. It connects business people to the help and support that is right for them: ranging from a local networking session, to useful advice in the form of downloadable eBooks, to expert advisers on a wide range of subjects who can be contacted personally.
The biggest impact the LEP has on businesses however is through our behind the scenes work to enable other organisations to connect directly with businesses. This includes both funded and non-funded activity.
Funded support is targeted towards organisations that help businesses achieve significant growth. This is primarily in the form of £27m of EU funding, of which the LEP has strategic oversight. This means that we decide what type of activity should be funded and issue calls to establish programmes of support, such as the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund.
We also work closely with local business networks to provide greater benefits for their members. This includes helping them organise events, such as our Popup Business Cafés, and by providing them with bespoke business advice such as our eBooks tailored to the needs of their members.
