Higher level skills, including those in specialised technical areas, are critical to increasing productivity and sustainable career progression.

Over the coming months, the LEP will be publishing research highlighting current provision and areas where there are gaps and new types of training are needed to meet both existing and emerging employer demand for higher level skills, especially in critical sectors for the LEP such as of agri-tech, digital, engineering and health and social care.

The LEP is also working closely with FE, HE and employer partners – led by York College – as they establish an Institute of Technology (IoT) in the region. 12 IoTs have been announced across England, attracting government funding and tasked with developing high quality technical routes to gaining sought after skills and technical qualifications as a credible alternative to a university focused academic pathway.
