Not in Education, Employment or training (NEET)

We know that the long term effects of people becoming Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) remain long after compulsory education. Those who become NEET after Year 11 are more likely to remain disadvantaged in their educational attainment, be unemployed or in lower paid jobs and have a higher risk of poor physical and mental health than their peers.

NEET is a European Social Fund (ESF) project, managed by NYBEP and delivered in Ryedale, Scarborough, Hambleton and Richmondshire. It works with those aged 15-19 (24 for those with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities) who are not in education employment or training (NEET) and preventatively with young people in school identified as vulnerable to becoming NEET.

The project aims to help individual young people re-engage with learning and improve employability and personal skills to enable them to progress successfully into work or further learning, and improve their chances of becoming employed or starting an Apprenticeship.
