European Social Funds Contracts Awarded28 October 2016
York, North Yorkshire and the East Riding will benefit from a £20 million investment in skills from the European Social Fund (ESF).
There are 8 projects in the final stages of procurement tackling challenges in the area such as helping people find and keep a job, increase apprenticeships, give support to people in work for higher level skills training and improve careers guidance in schools and colleges. The government has confirmed that funding is now guaranteed for all ESIF projects which are contracted before the UKs departure from the EU.
The Skills Funding Agency has confirmed that the original contract end dates of March 2018 can now be extended to July 2018.
Ruth Smith, Chair of YHYER LEP Skills and Employability Board said:
“This investment offers fantastic opportunities to support both individual career development and economic growth. It will align the provision of education, skills and training to the needs of employers, our key sectors and the local economy. We are focused on connecting students to business, forging stronger communities and ensuring that the current and future workforce have the right skills in place for businesses to grow and prosper.”
