Growing Skills to Grow our Economy

04 October 2017

GROWING the skills required to support a prosperous economy is a central focus for us here at the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Enterprise Partnership. It’s also the focus of our Skills Update Event at the Hilton in York today. We are celebrating the successful partnerships and collaborations that we have undertaken with our skills providers and stakeholders.. We’ll also be assessing future skills needs and gathering feedback to ensure our future initiatives meet the demands of the changing skills landscape

We’ll begin by reviewing this year’s achievements with the LEP skills team, followed by a look at the future labour market needs with Ross Moloney from Beyond 2030. Next, we’ll hear from a local businesses (YorMed) about their journey to enhance their employee’s skills. A consultation session will follow, to help shape our future work. There’ll also be a Skills Capital showcase to display the new facilities that have been – and are being – developed for our areas learners.

Annabel Jelley, Head of Skills at the LEP said: “Working with our partners we’ve made great progress this year. Together we’re ensuring that our current and future workforce have the tools required to obtain the skills they need to enter fulfilling careers that will grow our economy.

‘’The skills landscape is changing, more people are in employment now than ever before and we now need to focus on making sure that those in the workspace have careers in which they can grow as individuals, whilst contributing to our key growth sectors.

‘’The event will be a great way to share and celebrate exemplar work with our wider partners and begin to gather thoughts on shaping our initiatives in response to the industrial strategy.’’

You can find out more about all of our skills projects and how they’re impacting people already, in our 2017 Skills Update.
