LEP Skills Conference A Great Success
The LEP Skills team’s Skills Update 2016 event was a huge success.
The informative half day conference was extremely well attended and offered an opportunity to reflect on the Skills Inspired People priorities in our Strategic Economic Plan.
Over 25 million pounds has been allocated in the past 12 months to skills investment. Examples of or impact celebrated at the event included high quality learning facilities at Harrogate College, Askham Bryan College and investment at Selby College. We have helped to increase apprenticeships in North Yorkshire Dales and Moors and supported technological advances such as precision farming; biorenewables and biosecurity. We are continuing to deliver on our careers guidance projects and linking schools with employer enterprise advisers.
The goal of the LEP Skills team is to ensure our area meets its potential and our ambitious people are equipped with the right skills now and in the future. We achieve this by working in partnership with our stakeholders and partners. The Skills event 2016 was an effective opportunity to engage partners in guiding the investment for emerging skills and funding opportunities. Areas for consideration emerging from our consultation include workforce development for SMEs, support for those Not in Education, Employment or training, (NEET) developing higher level skills, increasing apprenticeships and keeping people in work for longer.
Thanks to all of those colleagues who attended and provided enthusiastic and informed feedback to help steer our Skills vision for the next 12 months.
