People at risk of redundancy or newly unemployed can access the advice and support they need to get them back into employment

21 October 2020

Government support through the Furlough Scheme has meant that employers have been able to keep people in jobs through the COVID-19 pandemic, but as this scheme winds down, we are starting to see redundancy and unemployment figures rise across the country and in our region.

At the height of the pandemic, the York & North Yorkshire Growth Hub, in partnership with the National Careers Service and DWP launched the York & North Yorkshire Jobs Fuse service. Promoted via York & North Yorkshire Growth Hub website  and Growth Hub’s Facebook Group, it provides access to a one-stop shop of employment support.

Its aim is to support both employers and employees who find themselves at risk of losing their jobs due to COVID-19 and connecting them with new employment opportunities.

A Jobs Fuse live event on 29 September, delivered by the National Careers Service via their National Careers Service North Yorkshire and Yorkshire Coast Facebook page, provided expert advice and information to individuals concerned about employment.

During the event, advisors provided information on:

  • where individuals can access Information, Advice and Guidance
  • information on where they can access training & potential funding for training
  • advice on how customers can identify their skills
  • advice on CVs
  • advice on interview preparation
  • an update on the labour market and emerging sectors of employment

To access ongoing support from Jobs Fuse – including exploring careers, skills assessments, finding courses/training and help to get a job – contact the National Careers Service on 0800 100900.
