Selby District High Street reopening campaign

26 October 2020

To support the re-opening of the high street in June, Selby district ran a resident facing campaign, Back to Business, showcasing businesses across the district highstreets to show how were adapting and reopening. The stories aimed to encourage shoppers to return to shopping districts and support the local economy. Many of these businesses used the council’s Back to Business reopening kits containing posters and floor stickers.

“In a way it’s almost an old-fashioned service, where someone comes to the counter and we do all the fetching and carrying for them”

Martin, Allen Ironmonger, Tadcaster

“The biggest positive for me has been the community, with messages of support.  I’ve also seen the business community helping each other out.  It’s easy to feel alone, but we’re in it together. The sense of community in Selby is a real positive”

Vikki, Inner Vision Opticians, Selby

“When people come through the door, I’ve got hand sanitiser for them to put on which they let dry so they can touch clothes and browse.  They know they’re safe and they can touch the clothes”

Jackie, Jac D Clothing, Selby

“I’m confident for the future.  Everybody wants a haircut!  We’ll come back stronger”

Daniel, Stag and Boy Barbers, Selby

“It’s like a VIP experience with only one person or household allowed in.  It’s like winning a golden ticket”

Steve, Sweet Finkle, Sherburn-in-Elmet
