Yes, Siri! Our Growth Hub Extends its Business Support Service

“YOUR very own business Siri” is how successful Ripon Businesswoman Jen Feltham describes How’s Business, our Growth Hub for York, North Yorkshire and East Riding’s businesses, which has significantly extended its services recently.

Reflecting how many of the area’s businesses have grown from start-up to scale up, How’s Business, has adapted its service similarly. Building on its award-winning PopUp Business Cafes where business people go for free, impartial business advice, How’s Business has added account management services to its support service portfolio, helping businesses to make sense of the complex business support landscape and benefit from a wide range of financing from its partner organisations.

Local Enterprise Partnership Board member David Kerfoot who built his own business into an international plc many years ago with his wife and just £300 capital, said he wished this support had been available when he started out.

He said: “When you’re starting out, you cannot spend hours online trying to find out what support is available. We are here to provide a consistent service from start-up to scale-up; helping businesses make sense of the support out there, funding opportunities, and ultimately to grow as quickly as possible and drive our economy.”

One of the first businesses to receive this new support is Mia and Dom, an organic skincare business run by successful Ripon businesswoman Jen Feltham. Jen said that when she started out she signed up for some free business support from a Popup Business Café in Ripon. Two years on and with continued support from How’s Business range of online articles and eBooks, Jen now has a fast growing, award winning business.

To help take Jen’s business to the next level, How’s Business new account management team introduced her to the Business Enterprise Fund (BEF), a not for profit social enterprise that helps businesses to grow when other lenders can’t assist.

Jen said: “Now that my business is established, I wanted to take it to the next level. With the help of How’s Business, I’ve received a loan from the Business Enterprise Fund to help me move to new premises at The Newby Stables, increase my staff and to develop my product range. The funding has been an enormous boost and I’m very excited about the business looking ahead. How’s Business has been instrumental in helping me do this, and I can’t thank them enough. Talking to them was quick and easy and I like to think of them as my very own Business Siri.”

On top of this, Jen has also been recommended to a free mentor scheme from the Institute of Entrepreneurs and Enterprise, and has been introduced to the Yorkshire Apprenticeship Hub.
