York & North Yorkshire LEP and the Careers and Enterprise Company are hosting an information event to prepare young people for their future careers.

As we continue to address the challenges arising from the pandemic, our region’s reshaping plan, developed by the York & North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership together with Local Authorities and partners, remains critically important in helping us meet our vision for a greener, fairer, stronger economic recovery.

One of the ten pledges of the reshaping plan is about ensuring that the young people in our region are not left behind in terms of access to support, learning, training and employment opportunities.

Delivering on this pledge, York & North Yorkshire LEP and the Careers and Enterprise Company are hosting a careers and skills information event to prepare them for their next steps in education and future workplace.

The event will take place on the Learn Live platform on the 26th January, 10am and repeated on the 28th January at 6pm for parents and carers to access. The event has been developed as a direct response to the request of schools needing greater support for their Year 11 and above students, Career Leaders, parents, and carers.

The aim of the event is to:

  • highlight key skills that transfer across a huge range of different careers and opportunities
  • showcase key sectors and explore the breadth of possibility within the world of work – people gain experience, opportunities, and jobs in thousands of different ways
  • Inspire and create positivity in young people’s careers prospects.

This event builds upon the recent ‘Shape Your Future’ Guide that was developed in partnership with the York and North Yorkshire LEP, Careers and Enterprise Company, FutureHY, City of York Council and Aspire I Gen. The guide enables young people to make informed choices about education, training, and career opportunities in York and North Yorkshire and will help them navigate the pathways available to them so that they have successful futures.

Local employers such as, NHS, FERA, LNER, Kier Construction, Nestlé as well as representatives from the Maritime industry and many more have signed up to support this event.
