David Dickson was the Senior Partner of Garbutt & Elliott LLP, Chartered Accountants until June 2015 having joined the firm as a partner from KPMG in 1990.
As part of his role in the SME and family business sectors he is a very experienced corporate finance advisor and, in particular, specialises in family business strategy, corporate governance, succession planning and exits. At Garbutt & Elliott he worked as part of a team of four partners plus support staff.
David also acts as a business advisor to a portfolio of successful owner-managed and family businesses. He has a significant network of contacts in banking and capital markets. He is also an active member of the CBI SME Committee and a member of the CBI Tax Task Force, reporting on issues affecting SME and family businesses.
David is currently a Director of several organisations in Yorkshire and, in addition, he is Treasurer of the University of York and Chairman of its Finance & Policy Committee. David also previously held an international post as a member of the World Governing Council of Praxity, one of 11 partners managing an association based in over 100 countries and employing over 32,000 people.
He holds a Fellowship in Family Business Advice and, as well as being a member of the IFB (the Institute for Family Business) and of ICFiB (the International Centre for Families in Business), David is a member of the Family Assembly and Chairman of the Family Business Committee of one of the UK’s larger family companies.
