Peter Emery

Deputy Chair, Electricity North West Limited

Peter is a Deputy Chair for our Main LEP Board.

Peter has over 30 years’ experience in the energy sector including 20 years with Esso and ExxonMobil where he specialised in strategic planning and operational management both in the UK, then in the Far East, Latin America and Europe.

Peter also spent 10 years working at Fawley Refinery, the UK’s largest, working in leadership positions and to the position of Operations Manager. In 2004, Peter joined the Board of Drax Power Limited as Production Director. During his tenure he worked on the power station’s successful Initial Public Offering onto the London Stock Exchange. Post flotation, Peter played a leading role in converting Drax into a major renewable generator and was Chairman of Capture Power, the joint venture vehicle responsible for the development of the White Rose Carbon Capture and Storage Project.

In September 2012, Peter was appointed as a Non-Executive Director of N.G. Bailey, a privately owned major electrical and mechanical contractor based at Denton near Ilkley, West Yorkshire.

In 2016, he was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Electricity North West Limited.

Peter has considerable trade association experience, initially as a Board Director of the Association of Electricity Producers (2008 - 2012) and then as chairman of the Generation Committee of Energy UK. He has been a technical consultant to the UK Government, a member of the Energy Research Partnership which provides input to the UK Government’s energy innovation agenda (2011 – 2015), and was appointed to the Sheffield University Energy 2050 Advisory board in November 2015.

Peter lives in York and is married with three sons.
